Fertility can be a complex topic to navigate for many people, including gender diverse individuals. We acknowledge that fertility services have previously been difficult for many members of the LGBQTI+ community to access – due to lack of knowledge and understanding among healthcare providers, as well as societal discriminatory behaviours – and there are still improvements to be made. At Toowoomba Obstetrics and Gynaecology, we are committed to providing accessible, gender diverse healthcare, and continuing to better inclusive fertility services.

Pairing with Rainbow Fertility

As part of our commitment to providing evidence-based, effective fertility services for all members of our diverse society, Toowoomba Obstetrics and Gynaecology has paired with Rainbow Fertility, Australia’s first LGBQTI+ exclusive fertility and IVF service provider.

This initiative was created by City Fertility, who, since 2003, has assisted in the conception and birth of over 14,400 children. With such extensive experience, Rainbow Fertility helps you reach your desire to build a family.

We proudly partner with Rainbow Fertility to provide fertility options for all genders, sexes and sexualities, using up-to-date research and upholding values of empathy and inclusion.

Fertility Service Options

All individuals and couples have different needs, and at Toowoomba Obstetrics and Gynaecology, we work to provide options which meet these needs. Some of our fertility services that may be beneficial for gender diverse individuals include:

Egg and Sperm Donors

Egg and sperm donations are options for individuals and couples who are unable to conceive with their own eggs or sperm.

Egg donation is a process in which an egg-producing individual provides their eggs to the intended parents for use in fertility treatments. Sperm-producing individuals can donate sperm cells.

Both egg and sperm donors can be anonymous or known to the intended parents. It is important that you research and consider your options for egg and sperm donation, as well as the legal and emotional implications of using a donor. Toowoomba Obstetrics and Gynaecology can support you through this.

Surrogacy

Here, an individual with a uterus agrees to have a child for another couple or individual who cannot birth a child using the traditional means. There are two types of surrogacy: traditional and gestational.

In traditional surrogacy, the sperm is from a donor, but the surrogate uses their own eggs. In gestational surrogacy, both egg and sperm are donated and fused in a laboratory setting, and the fertilised egg is then placed into the surrogate’s uterus.

There are a few legal considerations surrounding a surrogacy agreement, and these are outlined by the Australian Government here.
