Post-Surgical Mobilisation

After your C-section, we encourage you to move from the hospital bed as soon as possible; however, it is important to avoid strenuous activities during your initial recovery period. As your body recovers, you can progressively increase your activity level based on comfort and tolerance.

Driving After your
C-Section

Dr Homar generally permits patients to resume driving once they are pain-free, typically around the 3rd to 4th week post-surgery. Remember to consult with your car insurance company for any guidelines or restrictions.

Tampon Use and Sexual Activity

To allow for sufficient healing, do not use tampons or engage in sexual intercourse until your post-natal visit with Dr Homar. Here, Dr Homar will evaluate your healing progress and decide if your body is ready to recommence such activities.

Showering

You can shower regularly after your C-section, but it is essential to keep your incision dry. After your shower, you may use a hair dryer on a cool setting to gently dry the area.

Pain Management

Take pain relief medication as prescribed by Dr Homar. Additionally, drink enough water and consume adequate amounts of fibre, fruits, and vegetables to prevent constipation.

Breastfeeding

Dr Homar prescribes breastfeeding-safe pain medications, so you can nurse your baby throughout your C-section recovery.

Staples for Wound Closure

Dr Homar normally uses dissolvable sutures that do not require removal.

Occasionally, Dr Homar will use staples for wound closure. If this is the case, make an appointment for staple removal as directed by Dr Homar, generally 3 to 7 days after surgery. Information and instructions specific to your staple removal will be provided by our friendly staff.

Steri-Strips

If you have Steri-Strips (paper Band-Aids) on your incision, you may remove them after 7 days. Gently peel off the strips while in the shower. If any strips remain adhered, let them fall off naturally; do not forcibly remove Steri-Strips.

Post-Operative Concerns

If you experience any of the following symptoms, contact Toowoomba Obstetrics and Gynaecology immediately:

  • Fever
  • Heavy bleeding
  • Pain not controlled by prescribed pain medications
  • Severe nausea or vomiting
  • Redness surrounding the incision
  • Heavy drainage from the incision
  • Any other concerns or questions

Post-Operative Visit

Dr Lanziz Homar will schedule a post-operative visit 6 weeks after your C-section. Here, your healing progress will be assessed, and Dr Homar will address any questions or concerns regarding your recovery.
